About me
Hi! My name is Gaby Guzmán. I’m a doula, proud mom of two, and hold a Ph.D. in Bioengineering. I’ve been supporting families as a doula since March 2024, inspired by my own transformative birth experiences. Both of my children were born in an in-hospital birth center with the care of certified nurse midwives. Those experiences showed me the power of breath-work, education, and reducing fear in shaping a more positive and empowering birth.
Motivated by that impact, I felt called to offer emotional, physical, and informational support to other birthing people in my community. Since March 2024, I’ve served as a trained and badged volunteer hospital doula at UC San Diego Health, gaining valuable hands-on experience. I’m fluent in Spanish and have also supported families in Texas and Los Angeles as a bilingual virtual doula through Delfina Medical Group.
In February 2025, I became a Medi-Cal-approved doula provider and launched my private doula business, BirthPower Doula LLC (birthpowerdoula.com). I completed my DONA International birth doula training in March 2025 and am continuously seeking to deepen my knowledge and skills. I also attended a Spinning Babies® Foundational Workshop in April 2025 and enjoy weaving these techniques into my doula work.
My doula philosophy is rooted in the belief that all birthing people deserve compassionate, evidence-based care and access to supportive, personalized doula services. With my background as a scientist and researcher, I bring a strong evidence-based approach to my practice, while always centering your unique needs, values, and choices.
I'm honored to be part of Loula, where I can continue to expand the reach of doula care and support more families on their birth journeys.
